Our Edinburgh Theatre school students have just finished their Spotlight 2023 productions and wow what a trio of shows they were! From our minis production of Toy Story to our full school production of High School Musical Live, our spotlights just get bigger and better yearly.
This year we had the pleasure of performing at The Pleasance Theatre, which was a brand-new venue for Edinburgh Theatre School. It was such an exciting experience for all our students old and new. Although originally intended to be at the Brunton Theatre, where we have held our Spotlight performances previously, the students did a fabulous job of adjusting to a new theatre and new surroundings like true performers. Working with both the Pleasance and Brunton theatre is such a special opportunity for the children to perform in some of Edinburgh’s finest theatres
Toy Story
Our show day kicked off with our mini theatre production of Toy story, and it was too cute! This involved our P1&2 students across our 3 branches; South Queensferry, Chesser and Gyle. With costumes and lighting it is a really exciting and fun day for our Mini students. It was filled with so much magic and allowed our younger end of the school an opportunity to be on the big stage and perform to a live audience!
High School Musical Live!
For our older school we run a full 90-minute musical theatre production and this year High School Musical was one to watch! With 80+ students across all three Edinburgh branches, it was a roaring success! From lighting, to staging and set to mics, it really does give our students the full theatre experience. And a lot goes on behind the curtain; the students begin rehearsals months in advance!
Additionally, our students go through an audience process for singing, acting, and dancing roles before cast lists are given and the hard work really begins. The students work so hard from January-June ensuring a show stopping spectacular every year. It definitely brings smiles to every audience members face! It really brings all our students together, and is something they look forward to every single year.

We are so proud of all our Edinburgh Theatre school students and already can’t wait for our next show! With our new branch opening in Ratho, it is no doubt that Edinburgh Theatre School will continue to be bigger and better!
